What Are Data Integration Tools?

Data Integration Tools consist of technologies that integrate and consolidate all data types from various internal and external sources into target destinations such as databases, data marts, and data warehouses. Technologies included in the Data Integration Tools market include Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL), Enterprise Information Integration (EII), Metadata Management Applications, and Data Quality and Profiling Applications.

Giving Sense to SOA with Antipatterns

Researchers from IBM's developerWorks created a guide that identifies obstacles to the realization of an SOA strategy. Use these "anti-patterns" to avoid common SOA pitfalls.

The researchers use the term "antipatterns" to describe practices that consultants, integrators, designers, and programmers should avoid. This term stands in direct contrast to "patterns," which describe common and replicable best practices for software design. Some of the identified antipatterns for SOA implementations include:

Web Oriented Architecture

I recently had the pleasure of watching Nick Gall give his take on something he describes as Web-Oriented Architecture or WOA.  There are a lot of ways to view Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and this particular lightweight version of SOA is well worth watching.  This is because WOA is more of an emerging best practice from the battle-hardened folks building software on the Web than it is from ivory tower architects or the analyst group notebook. This always lends an idea more credence in my book

SOA Repository Best Practice

SOA Repository Best Practice

For those of us who have been developing applications for many years (think COBOL & Assembler from the 70s and 80s), the idea of having a code library (programs and routines) is nothing new. However for the Web Services generation, this concept has taken a while to re-emerge, but has now been packaged in the form of a services registry and/or repository.

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {629DA12E-9AD5-4FEC-B886-42C5982C5109} failed due to the following error: 80070005

Error:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {629DA12E-9AD5-4FEC-B886-42C5982C5109} failed due to the following error: 80070005

I got the above error when I configured my Biztalk Ports to talk to Sharepoint Service using the SharePoint Adapter.

If you happen to come across this error, do the following, it might resolve the problem, for it did for me.

Cannot connect to the configuration database

Error:

"Cannot connect to the configuration database"

If you happen to get the above Error while trying to get to your SharePoint Central Administration from Start --> Programs --> Administrative Tools then try the following option. It might solve the problem.

Migrating to an Enterprise Service Bus - It's worth the effort to do it right

John Jones--Migrating to an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is a bigger decision than many companies realize. It creates the opportunity for central management and access points for all the services available in the enterprise. When determining the need and the method for enabling an ESB for services, there are several important considerations. The ESB can act as a simple access point in terms of acting as a proxy to hosted web services; it can orchestrate calls to many web services through languages like BPEL, and it can also house the web service code itself.

Management Strategies for SOA

The SOA consortium has been running an annual contest for the best SOA Case Studies. Last year I attended the event and summarized the common characteristics of successful SOA implementations. This year's winners shared the same characteristics:

Guerrilla SOA

By: John Moe
About 15 years ago I came across ‘The Guerrilla Marketing Handbook’ by Jay Conrad Levinson. The concept was to create branding and lead generation through unconventional and small scale activities and events that could have as much impact as a large seven figure advertising campaign. Unfortunately, a lot of people took this as an excuse to commission irritating and humourless “viral” internet campaigns churned out by clueless marketing agencies. However, the concept of getting maximum results from minimum resources has stuck with me.
